In the next video I made, Sunday (2014), I included people as ‘actors of life’. In the tradition of Film Noir, Sunday embraces the language of the black and white movies where the actors play melodrama, shadowy sensuality and lost innocence typical of the postwar period. In reality I shot this video on a Sunday morning in a shopping center. Here the escalator set the tone for a life in transition, as individual narratives appeared and disappeared on it, ascending and descending within the flux of the Tapis Roulant. In this communal state people freed themselves from the conditions of time, letting go the stress of everyday life while revealing rare gestures of humanity made of love, relaxation, spontaneity and playfulness. This work blurs the boundaries between cinema and video, between what is filmed having a script in mind and what is digitally captured in order to record reality.
